Hide AI reply slop on X.

xslop is a browser extension for x.com. It adds a small x to every reply. Click it on a reply that reads like a bot, and every reply from that account disappears for you at once.

You do
Click the x on a slop reply. Your click is one vote.
You get
Threads without that account. With mute sync on, the X app on your phone hides it too.
Everyone gets
A shared list of accounts that many different people confirmed, hidden for anyone who wants it.

Example thread

  1. Mira Okafor @mira_ships_offline

Shipped offline mode for the app today. Three rewrites, one very long night, zero regrets.

  2. Growth Mindset Daily @growth_mindset_daily· 1m

Great insight! Consistency is the key to success in today's fast-paced world. 🚀

  3. Devon Hale @devon_codes_offline· 4m

Does it queue edits made offline, or only cache reads?

  4. Thought Leader @ai_thought_leader_x· 2m

This is a game-changer. Thanks for sharing such valuable content!

  5. Insightful Takes @insightful_takes_ai· 3m

Absolutely love this perspective! 💯 What a journey.

  6. Priya N. @priya_on_sync_bugs· 9m

Rewrite three is always the one that sticks. Did you keep the old sync queue?

  7. Growth Mindset Daily @growth_mindset_daily· 1m

    This. Couldn't agree more! 🙌

Fictional accounts. Each handle is longer than X allows, so none of them can belong to a real person. Click the x on any reply to try it.

Under a big post, the replies start to sound like this.

31 of 35 replies say nothing.

They land seconds after the post and repeat the same few lines under every big account. The 4 people with a real question end up buried between them.

Ines Varga @ines_builds_sync_engines

Three years of nights and weekends: the sync engine is open source today. MIT license, full docs, and the bug that ate 2025 finally has a test.

  1. Growth Mindset Daily @growth_mindset_daily· 2s

  3. Future of Work Hub @future_of_work_hub_ai· 4s

  4. Devon Hale @devon_debugs_offline_sync· 6m

Does it handle clock skew between devices, or does it trust the server time?

  5. Thought Leader @ai_thought_leader_x· 5s

    Such valuable content. Thanks! 🙏

  6. Daily Hustle Notes @daily_hustle_notes_x· 7s

    This. So much this. 👏

  10. Marco Bianchi @marco_ships_mobile_apps· 14m

  11. Aiko T. @aiko_reads_the_source· 23m

How large is the memory footprint on older Android phones?

How it works

Everything happens inside the x.com page that you already use. No X login, no X API, no new app.

  1. You click the x

Each reply on x.com gets a small x next to it. One click hides every reply from that account for you, on every thread, at once. The click also counts as your vote.

  2. The crowd confirms

The xslop server combines the votes of everyone who uses the extension with how each account's replies behave. An account that many different people mark joins the shared list.

  3. Hidden here, muted on your phone

If you want it, the extension also hides accounts on the shared list. Turn on mute sync and xslop mutes them on your own X account, so the X app on your phone hides them as well.

How the list stays fair

One loud group cannot put an account on the shared list. Four rules make sure of that.

Both sides have to agree
xslop learns which raters usually vote together. An account is confirmed only when raters who normally disagree both call it slop. A brigade from one side pushes the account along that side, not onto the list.
Behaviour, not opinion
With signal sharing on, the extension reports how replies behave: seconds after the post, the same text under many posts, generic wording. The text of the reply never goes into a signal.
Fresh and crowded installs count less
A vote from an install younger than a day counts less. Many installs on one network count as fewer voters.
A person reads every appeal
Anyone on the list can appeal. An admin checks each appeal by hand, and an accepted appeal clears the account.

Both sides call it slop. The account is confirmed.

A diagram of the rule, not live data. Each dot is one rater; a line is a slop vote.

The list started from the public X list "ai slop posters" by @dillon_mulroy, 793 accounts at import. Those accounts start as confirmed and can appeal like any other.

Install xslop

Loading the latest version…

Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers

  1. Download the zip and unzip it.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in a new tab.
  3. Turn on Developer mode, top right.
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
  5. Open x.com. Each reply now has the xslop x.

Firefox on your computer

  1. Download the Firefox zip.
  2. Open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox.
  3. Click Load Temporary Add-on and select the zip.

Firefox removes a temporary add-on when it restarts. A permanent install comes with the addons.mozilla.org listing.

Firefox for Android

Firefox for Android installs add-ons from addons.mozilla.org only, and the xslop listing is not live yet. Until then, turn on mute sync on your computer: the X app on your phone then hides the same accounts.

Check a handle or appeal

Type any X handle to see where it stands: its status, the votes, and the replies that people marked. If your own account is on the list, you can appeal from here.

To appeal you get a short code. You put the code in your X bio, and an admin compares it by hand. Nobody needs your password.

What xslop sends, and what it never sends

Sent to the xslop server

  • Your votes: the account's handle, slop or not slop, the reply's id, the id of the post it answers, the reply text (up to 560 characters) and its time.
  • A random install id and a public key. Your browser makes the key pair and signs every vote with it. The private key never leaves your browser.
  • Only if you turn on signal sharing: reply timing, text length, a short fingerprint of the text and two wording scores. Signals carry no install id.

Never sent

  • Your X password, cookies or session. Mute sync runs inside your own x.com tab and talks only to x.com.
  • Your own X handle and the accounts you follow.
  • Pages outside x.com. The extension runs on x.com only.
  • A stored copy of your IP address. Every web request shows it to the server, but the server keeps only a salted hash of your network prefix, to spot many installs on one network.
  • The text of a reply inside a signal.

This page loads nothing from other servers: no analytics, no ads, no trackers.

Questions

Is xslop part of X?

No. xslop is independent and has no relation with X Corp. The x in the name means crossed out.

Do I log in, or give xslop my X account?

No. xslop uses no X API and no X login. It works inside the x.com page that you already have open.

What if I mark a real person by mistake?

Click Undo on the hidden line, or remove the account from your list in the xslop popup. Your vote goes away with it.

Can a group vote someone onto the list?

Votes from one side alone do not confirm an account. Raters who usually disagree have to agree first. How the list stays fair shows the rule.

Why do I install from a zip?

The zip lets you use xslop now, without a store listing. When a store listing is live, the install section shows its button.

Does it work on my phone?

Turn on mute sync on your computer. xslop then mutes confirmed accounts on your X account, slowly and at most 40 a day, so the X app hides them too. Firefox for Android can run the extension itself once its add-on listing is live.

Which accounts does mute sync mute, and can I undo it?

Your own slop list first, then confirmed accounts from the shared list. xslop keeps a record of its own mutes and never touches an account that you muted yourself. Undo all xslop mutes is one click in the popup.

My account is on the list. What now?

Check your handle and send an appeal. You get a code for your X bio, and an admin checks it by hand.
